Michele Malejki from the global technology company talks about the “amazing” partnership that's helping to ensure technology can be a powerful equalizer

HP is a technology company born of the belief that businesses should do more than just make a profit.

That ethos was behind their decision to become a member of the Global Business Coalition for Education in 2012 – and their goal to accelerate digital equity for 150 million people by 2030.

Now a key partner of GBC-Education, HP’s support has helped youth impacted by conflicts access quality education. That includes the Digital Equity for Ukraine initiative in 2022-23 when GBC-Education, in partnership with HP and Microsoft, delivered 78,000 laptops and learning devices to Ukrainian children.

Michele Malejki, Global Head of Social Impact at HP and Executive Director of the HP Foundation, summed up the relationship when she said: “What I love about HP’s partnership with GBC-Education is that we are two strong organizations who have a very similar mission.

“How do we accelerate opportunity for young people, adults, lifelong learners around the world, and think about what technology could do to be a great equalizer and enabler for that.”

GBC-Education can assist businesses like HP because of our in-house expertise and vast network of more than 150 companies, nonprofits, and experts that inform our perspective on trends, needs, and challenges in global education. Programs like our Youth Skills and Employment Accelerator – now in its third year – also help US-based organizations equip youth with skills for the future of work.

Malejki said the partnership with GBC-Education has been “absolutely amazing”. She added: “It’s helped us think about our own theory of change and what the future of work really needs when it comes to digital equity.”

Malejki noted that GBC-Education helps HP take a big idea and distil it down to something tangible that its teams can work with. That’s crucial when confronting global challenges like how to equip disconnected communities with the skills needed for the future of work.

She added: “I would definitely recommend working with GBC Education, whether you’re a fellow nonprofit that’s looking for ways to source your ideas and solutions into the mainstream or a corporation thinking about why we are in such a unique moment in time.”
