Congratulations to Coalition member ITWORX Education for receiving two awards at the ACN Arab Technology Awards 2016 on October 17th!

The two honors, ‘Education Implementation of the Year Award’ and ‘Harnessing Innovation Award,’ were awarded to ITWORX Education for its successful blended learning program run at a Syrian refugee camp in Chtoura, Bekaa Valley, Lebanon. The end-to-end program tapped into the functionalities of the company’s latest product: WinjiGo.

WinjiGo, a “unique social learning space designed for next-generation teaching and learning,” is an e-learning platform that is accessible via desktop computers, laptops, and tablets, and is designed for use in blended learning environments. It can be used anywhere to deliver a unique learning and teaching experience, overcoming constraints such as lack of safe transportation for students, costly school infrastructure, limited teacher capacity, and more.

Given the latest figures, which indicate that 400,000 of the 510,000 Syrian children ages 3-18 living in Lebanon are currently out of school, ITWORX Education saw a great need for this program. By placing WinjiGo in learning centers within the refugee camp, providing tablet devices, recruiting and teaching volunteer teachers on technology-enabled teaching and digital content creation, children who otherwise would not have access to educational opportunities, were able to catch up on missed studies and continue their education.

“We learned a lot of new things using WinjiGo, it helped us with many activities,” explained Abeer Hamza, a student in ITWORX Education’s pilot program in Lebanon. “We can communicate with our teachers and collaborate with our peers through the tablet without having to be in the class.”

The potential of WinjiGo’s impact is tremendous, with the ability to reach thousands of students who are out of school and require flexible, sustainable learning opportunities and environments.

ITWORX Education’s achievements illustrate the ways in which business can leverage its expertise, leadership, and core assets to minimize the amount of time that children who are in crisis are left out of school. Beyond their work for refugees in Lebanon, ITWORX Education has registered in the REACT Database, a coordinated and targeted approach to help private sector engage, contribute, and prioritize investments in education during times of emergency.

The company has recently completed another pilot program in Turkey to help deliver learning to Syrian refugee children in the country.
