Future Plans (Newbury, OH)
About
Future Plans is a nonprofit dedicated to transforming opportunities for first-generation college students, opportunity youth and communities impacted by generational poverty, substance use or incarceration in Appalachian and rural Ohio.
The FutureWorks Hubs combine early college microschools, maker spaces and social enterprises to meet local labor market demand. By pairing government partners with community colleges, employers and economic development entities, Future Plans works across sectors to offer rural youth skills with purpose.
Flagship initiatives include:
- The Rural Cloth & Dye Innovation Hub, which connects youth to careers in agriculture, chemical processing and eco-textile manufacturing.
- Dragonfly Village, a workforce-integrated residential community that supports young adults in earning industry-recognized credentials in carpentry, HVAC and structural 3D printing while addressing Ohio’s severe housing shortage.
- Project Grit Ohio, a digital platform and coaching model guiding youth through personalized skill assessments, goal setting and pathways to postsecondary training or employment.
