In support of the Ugandan government’s efforts to provide refugee children with a quality education, the Global Business Coalition for Education (GBC-Education) helped broker a partnership between HP,  Education Cannot Wait (ECW), Learning Equality, UNHCR, and UNICEF to donate technology and resources for utilizing Learning Equality’s Kolibri offline platform in an emergency setting.

The partnership was created through GBC-Education’s REACT Initiative, a digital platform for matching business with implementation partners on the ground to deliver learning opportunity to children and youth caught in crisis. In November, HP representatives joined other partners in a field visit to Uganda in order to assess the needs in local schools and communities. As a pilot phase of the project, “HP will engage Learning Equality as a key collaborator to deploy its HP School Cloud and the Kolibri learning platform in select schools delivering education to refugee and host communities children in the spring of 2019. The project will be extended to a number of additional schools over the course of the year to benefit thousands of children.”

GBC-Education’s REACT initiative is a hub to channel corporate contributions in support of education in emergencies by building results-oriented partnerships between businesses, UN agencies, NGOs, national governments, and actors.
