UNGA Education First Launch – 26th September

Strive Masiyiwa, the CEO of Econet Wireless – a Founding Member of the Global Business Coalition for Education – made a major announcement at the launch of the UN’s Secretary-General’s new education initiative, Education First on 26th September. In front of an audience of heads of state and other prominent global figures including Aung San Suu Kyi, he announced specific commitments from the private sector, including a $1bn programme over the next three years from fellow GBC-Ed Founding Member Western Union, as well as the full list of the Global Business Coalition for Education’s Founding Members.   The total commitments amounted to over $1.5bn of support for global education – an unprecedented contribution on the part of the private sector.
