In September at the UN Global Compact Leaders’ Summit, a set of guidance notes will be released to steer business towards best practices for investing in global education. The United Nation’s Global Compact, UNICEF, UNESCO, and the Office of the UN Special Envoy for Global Education have joined forces to build this set of guidelines with the business community.
A series of case studies highlighting examples of best practice from GBC-Education members and other corporate leaders will complement the final set of guidelines.
GBC-Education, a partner in this initiative, recently hosted a consultation at the offices of member company, Reed Smith, in New York to lay the foundation for the initial set of guidelines. Bringing together a broad set of experts from business, NGOs, the United Nations and academia, the afternoon’s discussions focused on how to create shared value for business and society in the education space. Participants discussed how to best make sustainable investments in partnership with governments, NGOs or other delivery agents to further the education agenda. The next consultation will be held in Paris on July 2, 2013.
The guidelines and case studies will be shared in September 2013 as part of the events at the UN Global Compact Leader’s Summit.
