About Fernández de Mesa
At present, Sofía Fernandez de Mesa is Director of International Affairs at Telefonica Foundation and ProFuturo Foundation representing both foundations before domestic and international institutions and sundry international audiences and targets.
From 2015 to mid-2019 Sofía served as Managing Director of ProFuturo Foundation, a joint education initiative launched in 2015 by Telefonica Foundation and “la Caixa” Banking Foundation whose mission is to bridge the education gap by providing quality digital education for children in underserved communities in Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
With a BA in Business Administration from CUNEF (Complutense University of Madrid) and an Executive MBA from INSEAD (France), Sofía joined the Financial Control Department of Telefónica in 1999. In 2001, she was appointed Global Director of CSC, the shared services initiative of Telefónica “t-gestiona” and, in 2004, Director of Corporate Strategy of Atento, Telefónica’s call center business unit, where she introduced CSR as core component of the strategy. She led CSR and Social Innovation strategies of Telefónica until 2015, focusing on ICT social entrepreneurship and the M- Inclusion initiative, a collaborative framework to encourage the use of innovative and affordable mobile solutions for social integration.
