GBC-Education member Microsoft is unveiling its latest Windows 10 operating system soon and accompanying it is a year long celebratory campaign that will award a $10 million investment in organizations that their fans believe “upgrade” the world. Tagged #UpgradeYourWorld, the campaign will promote collaboration among fans, nonprofits, and the private sector to foster social good, including supporting children’s right to access quality education.

After awarding 10 global nonprofits with $500,000 in addition to Microsoft services and technology, Microsoft will begin a nomination process for 100 local nonprofits in 10 countries on September 1 which will each receive $50,000 in a cash investment plus Microsoft technology.

Microsoft will host on-the-ground launch events in 13 cities around the world including Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore, Beijing, New Delhi, Dubai, Nairobi, Berlin, Johannesburg, Madrid, London, São Paulo, and New York City to support fans that are rallying for their favorite nonprofit. Also, tens of thousands of Microsoft employees will take to their local communities to volunteer to “upgrade” their community in support of the launch campaign. In addition, Microsoft will make Windows 10 available across 190 countries as a free upgrade.
