The Global Business Coalition for Education (GBC-Education) announced today that Google (NYSE: Alphabet Inc. GOOGL) has joined its growing coalition of more than 150 companies committed to transforming the lives of 50 million people through education.

As a new member of GBC-Education, Google will join leading businesses, including Deloitte, Dell, HP, Ancestry, Microsoft and Pearson, in working together to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 of free, equitable, and inclusive quality education for all.

Google will engage in global education policy and work to expand educational opportunities through a variety of initiatives, including sponsoring a dialogue on artificial intelligence and the future of Africa during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in New York in September.

This announcement coincides with the next phase of the Device Coalition for Ukraine, an innovative partnership aimed at providing devices to youth displaced by the ongoing war in Ukraine. Facilitated by GBC-Education, in collaboration with Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science, HP and Google, this partnership will benefit millions of displaced youth, ensuring their continued access to education.

During the first year of the full scale invasion of Ukraine, and prior to joining GBC-Education, Google for Education organized a donation of 50,000 Chromebooks for teachers along with the largest teacher training program ever, reaching approximately half of all teachers in Ukraine.

To date, the coalition has helped to distribute more than 70,000 laptops to young students and teachers in Ukraine and neighboring host countries, reaching an estimated 1.5 million learners either via their teachers or directly.

“Google’s ideas and innovations continue to shape the digital landscape and we’re thrilled to have them join the Global Business Coalition for Education to reach our goal of transforming the lives of over 50 million people through education. Like us, Google believes that everyone deserves the tools and skills to build the future they envision for themselves.”

Justin van Fleet, CEO of the Global Business Coalition for Education
