Delegation to Ethiopia, May 2012
Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Meles Zenawi met a delegation from the Global Business Coalition for Education during the week of the World Economic Forum Africa meeting, which took place in Addis Ababa 9th-11th May.
Despite significant progress in recent years, Ethiopia still has more than two million children of primary school age not receiving a basic education, and the government recognises that external assistance and expertise is needed if the Millennium Development Goal of universal primary education is to be met by the end of 2015.
GBC-Ed members met the Prime Minister, Education Minister, and officials to explore the ways in which the skills, resources, and innovation of the business community can be brought to bear to help provide school places for millions of Ethiopian children.
Prime Minister Meles and his team strongly welcomed the interest of the business community, and at their suggestion a number of companies are developing proposals for engagement in Ethiopian education.
