About

New Door aims to prepare youth for work and life by providing the jobs, training, education, and support they need to discover and achieve their potential so that they can transition to independent adulthood. New Door’s continuum of offerings includes:

Youth Employment Program: Their longest-standing program equips youth with foundational workplace skills through pre-employment training, asset building, barrier removal, skill-building workshops (soft and hard skills), 1:1 supportive services, and subsidized employment over 6 months. Employment placements provide hands-on, meaningful work experience with diverse opportunities that prepare youth for middle-income jobs that offer strong prospects of onward mobility.

Career Search Accelerator: These short-term intensives develop and strengthen career planning and attachment and are supported by advanced skill-building workshops, career panels, professional development, career exploration “field trips, networking, and 1:1 career coaching.

Introduction to Skilled Trades Program (i2ST): In 2023, New Door launched this pilot program in partnership with Laney College, marking their first sector-driven programming. Youth are paid to engage in full-time, hands-on learning, training, and exploration of various growth-sector Skilled Trades (welding, machining, computer-animated design, electrical engineering, aviation, automotive mechanics, etc.). Youth simultaneously receive career readiness skill-building, intensive 1:1 coaching, connection to wraparound services, and supported job search. In 2024, they expanded the pilot program to include a partnership with City College of SF and began to explore replicating the program for the healthcare sector.

High School Equivalency Program: Their high-impact program offers a range of paths (GED, HiSET) toward an HSE and is designed to best support the youth they serve, with small classes, highly individualized instruction, and rolling enrollment. To reduce the likelihood that youth must choose work over education, New Door provides hourly stipends for class/study time and transportation benefits.

Postsecondary Education Services: In February 2024, New Door launched this program with a position fully dedicated to supporting and navigating youth into postsecondary education. They provide supportive services (1:1 and group) to youth as they access/apply for continuing education in the community college system.
