About

Future Chefs empowers Boston youth to take charge of their future by providing opportunities to lead and to develop the skills needed to grow in their personal and professional lives beyond high school. Our conviction is that the life skills and knife skills learned in the kitchen can be applied meaningfully in all avenues of a fulfilling life. Future Chefs understands that by providing early employment, transferable skills training, and ongoing coaching and support, a young person will establish early patterns of success. They offer three programs that are completed sequentially: A short-term introductory program, a paid after-school work and service program for high school juniors and seniors, and a program for continued engagement and support after high school graduation. Each program includes comprehensive professional and life skills training, opportunities for youth leadership, coaching from industry experts, and support to pursue a broad range of culinary and other professional careers.

They believe that every student develops in a setting that provides high expectations, opportunities for growth and positive interactions with adults. Students emerge from the School to Career Program with the professional experience and confidence to pursue jobs that are both personally fulfilling and financially stable.

In addition to our afterschool programming, Future Chefs partners with local alternative high schools to engage students not supported by the traditional high school structure during the day. Students receive personalized instruction in an intimate setting to reinforce and enhance their learning at school, and gain an additional set of adults who are invested in their wellbeing and available for support. Future Chefs is also a resource for the local community, and regularly hosts meetings and events for other like-minded organizations.
