Dent Education offers equitable “Earn-to-Learn” innovation programs where Baltimore youth – guided by passionate educators, entrepreneurs, and industry experts – build entrepreneurial mindsets, social capital, and 21st-century tech skills while exploring innovation careers as technologists, designers, engineers, and entrepreneurs. Dent currently runs 6 programs and to date, and has served 620 youth who have earned $1,015,000 – an annual average of $1,635 and 142 hours for one Denter. Youth have connected with 350+ partners – local innovators, leaders, and educators.

Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Research & Reform in Education (JHU) has evaluated the impact and efficacy of Dent’s work. After Dent, 90% of youth” believe in their ability to shape the world around them‚ and”view problems as opportunities to make a difference, (JHU 2023). An average of 96% of Dent alumni graduated high school and 86% are currently in a two or four year college/university. Their alumni’s use of our Dent Mindsets “continue to be practiced demonstrating that these practices have become habits over the long-term, (JHU 2024).

Dent engages BCPSS high schoolers between 14 – 18 and supports youth until age 24. 97% of Denters identify as BIPOC and 15% as LGTBQ+ . from 25+ Baltimore City high schools and neighborhoods.

In their paid innovation internships students build confidence, community, and career strategies as they find mentors, develop innovative mindsets, and learn skills like 3D printing, AI tools, product design, and design thinking to launch their own ventures. They are working towards their Vision: Catalyze youth to become leaders of a racially just and thriving innovation ecosystem in Baltimore.
