Employee engagement: education can bring purpose

In a recent survey by McKinsey & Company, two-thirds of U.S.-based employees said that COVID-19 has caused them to reflect on their purpose in life. But the survey highlighted a challenge: only 15 percent of frontline managers and workers feel they are living their purpose at work.
When employees feel that their purpose is aligned with the organization’s purpose, the benefits expand to include stronger employee engagement, heightened loyalty, and a greater willingness to recommend the company to others. As a company leader, you play an important part in helping your employees find their purpose and live it and supporting education might be the key.
We have turn-key solutions to make education a central part of your company’s purpose — and bring your employees along the journey with the company.
Here are a few ways to get started:
1. Inspire
You can use our most recent video developed with BBDO to get your employees engaged in education. This video can be used at events or on your intranet, website and social media platforms. For our members, we can also customize the final scene to include your logo.
2. Fundraise
Your employees can collectively fundraise to end the global education crisis through GBC-Education. Employee donations can be directed to our global education activities or deployed alongside Theirworld, a global children’s charity supporting on-the-ground projects for children and youth. We can provide reports to help your employees understand the impact their contributions make. Get in touch.
3. Engage
Our members have access to our Education 101 sessions which provide 60-minute webinars with one of our in-house experts for members of your team. These presentations can be customized based on your company’s needs — targeting the entire employee base with a general and informative presentation or developing a bespoke presentation for smaller teams focused on social impact, corporate
4. Respond to disasters
Through our humanitarian relief work, we can partner with your disaster response team to quickly and effectively channel corporate contributions to support education during natural disasters and humanitarian crises. We provide employers with on-the-ground situation briefs and impact reports about how contributions are directed.
5. Volunteer
Senior executives can be part of GBC-Education working groups or other executive initiatives. We can also explore opportunities for employee volunteerism and/or pro bono support. For example, as part of the Skills Friendly Cities challenge, companies can support winning cities in developing skilling programs for young people in the U.S. Contact us to learn more.
6. Participate
Throughout the year with Theirworld, we host mass participation events (e.g. walks, sponsored marathons, activities for families with children, etc.) which make an ideal opportunity for your employees to actively raise awareness about the importance of education.
