GBC-Education founding members Discovery Communications and Gucci were part of a high-level panel addressing delegates at the gathering of 10,000 of the world’s leading television executives.
With a focus on the role that television can play in getting 61 million out-of-school children an education, the presentation was moderated by Gordon Brown. He spelled out the 1,000-day countdown to the end of 2015, deadline for the UN Millennium Goals, and urged the TV industry to use its creative talents to promote the cause of universal education.
The panel featured: David Zaslav, President and CEO of Discovery Communications; Robert Triefus, Chief Marketing Officer of Gucci; Ziauddin Yousafzai, father of Malala Yousafzai and adviser to the UN special envoy for global education; John Wood, founder of the NGO Room to Read; and Trirvashe, a Plan International girl ambassador from rural Zambia.
In connection with the launch of its ‘Chime for Change’ campaign and to announce a London concert headlined by Beyonce Knowles-Carter, Gucci sponsored a ‘Countdown to Global Education’ VIP lunch, which followed the presentation.
